MARGARET DENNIS COTTAGE - LORNE
“WEE-LOO” AND “WILLARING”
The property at Lorne was formerly known as Wee-Loo, and was built by Miss Margaret Dennis, to a design by her brother, Mr. Richard Dennis, in 1922. The Dennis family were early pioneers whose first home was Tarndwarncoort, near Colac. They were the first to breed Polwarth sheep. The late Miss Margaret Dennis lived for many years at “Eeyeuk”, a few miles from Noorat, on the Darlington Road, and all her life had been associated with the Noorat Presbyterian Church. The house was divided into two flats, Wee-Loo and Willaring, which she gave to the church in 1957 to be administered by the Presbytery of Barwon, for use as holiday homes for ministers and missionaries. To enable these valuable flats to have the fullest use, permission has been given to extend the privilege to other Uniting Church families, whilst still giving preference to clergy. The rentals are as low as economically possible. Early booking is wise.
